Tip Four ~ Get Crafty

Join the #TakeBackThanksgiving movement!

Rather than prepping those Black Friday shopping lists, how about putting together a list of all the supplies you’ll need to tackle a family DIY project over Thanksgiving weekend. Today, I'm sharing my fourth idea for how you can #TakeBackThanksgiving this holiday.

Tip #4 ~ Get Crafty

You’ll need to be willing to get your hands a little dirty and plan ahead, but I guarantee these crazy fun DIY crafts are well worth the effort!

  • For the Adults ~ Coconut Wax Candles

If you haven’t noticed, I'm a bit cuckoo for coconuts. Their uses are endless and they’re a super safe and healthy alternative to many personal care and cooking products. Coconut oil is also a fabulous base for many household cleaners and even candle wax! Follow this dummy proof guide from Sprinkles in Springs to make Orange Mint Coconut Wax Candles scented with pure essential oils. They make the perfect hostess gift ~ or any gift really ~ and serve to make the season festive and bright.

  • For the Kids ~ Turkey Headbands

Kiddos are sure to love making these adorable headpieces, which are also beautifully basic. Required: googly eyes, construction paper, colorful feathers, and a stapler (or some non-toxic craft glue if you happen to have some). Follow these simple steps from ABC Creative Learning.

During this entire week of thanks I'll be posting tips and ideas for ways you and your loved ones can Take Back Thanksgiving this year. Rather than spending money on cheap goods from deep discounters over the holiday weekend, perhaps you'd prefer spending time with the people you care about most, doing things that bring you closer together.
